GO | Portrait of a Missionary

As you know, I originally started into photography with Youth With A Mission, learning and doing mission photography in Germany and Thailand. Since then, the adventure has taken a different direction… towards being a wedding and portrait photographer. Lately, I’ve been feeling like I get caught up in “work” more often than not… and I don’t just want my blog to show all the cool weddings and people I shoot… I want it to also be a connecting tool. As much we talk with friends and meet people going through the “in’s” and “out’s” of daily life… sometimes it’s easy to fall into accidental disconnection. I know for myself, it’s easy to meet people, to listen to what they’re thinking or doing that day… and then forget to follow up after the fact. But I’ve been making a point to really dig deeper into people’s lives and find ways to connect. I want this blog to be more than just something pretty to look at… and I’m convinced there’s more of you who would like to dig deeper in life as well. So this is why I want to start this mini project that I, for a lack of more unique names, refer to as, “GO”.

GO |  is a series of portraits of people in my life who’ve made the decision to spend the next 6-8 months doing international missions. It’s also a chance for me, as well as all of you to dig deeper into the world you live in and be a part of a bigger purpose. This series of blog posts will introduce you to these amazing people, they will give you an idea of who they are, what they’re about, what their mission is, and there will be an opportunity for you to connect with them if you choose.

This may seem odd that I’m doing a project like this, because it has nothing to do with wedding photography… but this is something I want to be about… connecting… and participating in the bigger story. Let’s face it. Life is not about wedding photography… and it’s definitely NOT about  me. Life is not about “getting through it” till something or someone better comes along…. and it’s not about settling for the “safe choice.” Life is for living, taking risks, loving others and connecting with those around us on a deeper and more meaningful level.

So, with that said, in the coming weeks, I’ll be posting a series of 2 or 3 portraits and I hope you’ll join me in this mini project. I’m excited to share what these people will be up to and I’m even more excited to continue on with them on their journey and to connect deeper…. I hope you’ll join us.

Here’s just  a sneak peek of some portraits I did last night with one of the girls being featured in this project, Becca Schott. More to come…

Oh Kate, I cannot wait to follow this series you’re going to do! And to pray for all the people that you’ll be connecting with doing missions! I just got back from Africa and I am in LOVE with the beautiful children I worked with there and even more than that in love with God is doing there. Can’t wait to see how He uses the people you’re photographing and you too! K, remember to email me with new prayer requests. You’re still on my list! 🙂
