Curtis and Brooke’s LA Engagement Shoot

It’s a good rule of thumb to not go looking for lasting relationships in a bar. It’s also a good rule of thumb to never say “never.” Brooke, being a smart and realistic young business woman in Los Angeles made a rule to never date guys she meets in bars. And she stuck to it until this one time when she met a guy named Curtis. They were both there with friends to unwind after a long work week. He noticed her from across the room and was taken by her incredible beauty and beaming smile. He struck up a conversation with her and by the end of the evening, asked for her number. Brooke gave it to him knowing full and well she’d never return his calls because, well let’s face it, he was just a guy from a bar.

But when received a call and a voice message from “Curtis from the bar last week”, that 2nd rule of thumb flashed through her mind…. what if? She shoved that inclination back down and reasoned that he was just the guy from the bar and there was no future, so why bother. But that question kept flashing through her mind as she went through her week. Soon enough, reason gave way to hope and they went on their first date. Then another. Then another. Their dates consisted of activities like dressing up as artsy hipsters and going to fancy art showings to pretend they’re deep and afflicted artists…. and fixie bike races through the streets of LA. They soon found that they were a perfect fit, and Brooke realized that despite her good reason, fate had wiggled its way through the rules and found her a prince charming…. a man worth marrying.

We took some engagement photos at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, dressing up and embracing their love for dramatic… and then we toned it down and took some romantically casual photos around Union Station and Olvera Street. I’m particularly excited to share these because they’re a lot more edgy than my typical style and their desire for me to “do my thing” led to some really cool shots using light and shadows. Here are my favorites….
